Newcastle v West Ham

Newcastle United v West Ham United

Newcastle go into this must win home game with stress and strife both on and off the pitch. Injuries to several key players mean that once more they will be fielding a depleted side with hints of a possible start for striker Andy Carroll, his first under Kinnear. Add to this the media frenzy of the will he/won’t he sale of Given must surely bring about a tough challenge.

West Ham make the long trip up from the east of London looking to record a fourth straight win in all competitions. Unlike Newcastle, West Ham have a problem accommodating all there fit players with Parker coming back from suspension and Neill overcoming injury the competition is high.

The match throws up many an interesting fact amongst them being the game is Newcastle’s 300th Premier League game at St James’ and West Ham United midfielder Valon Behrami had won 55 free-kicks – more than any other Premier League player.

Defender On His Way To Bolton

Bolton have agreed a fee with West Ham for defender Calum Davenport for a fee believed to be in the region of £2million, however Bolton manager Gary Megson is not to confident on completing the deal.

Megson claims that despite having a bid accepted they will not rule out other players for the same position.

The Bolton manager said – “We’ve got an agreement with West Ham but we’re also looking at other players in that position.

“It still may happen that Calum joins Bolton but we will need another 24 hours before we decide what we are going to do.

“We’ve also got another player that we’re close to coming to an agreement with, so it’s decision time.

“We may get accused of messing somebody about but we’ve got to do what’s right for the football club.”

West Ham v Tottenham – Harry Returns

Harry Redknapp returns to Upton Park tonight this time as Tottenham’s manager after turning his back on the hammers.

Tottenham will be hoping to bounce back after their defeat to the hands of Everton at White Hart Lane last weekend whilst West Ham will be hoping to build on the goal-less draw at Anfield.

Season Preview – West Ham Fan [Resus]

Are you pleased with your summer transfers?
No. We should have concentrated on areas we are lacking crucial backup. Apart from Behrami we haven’t signed a player who is capable to compete for a first team spot. At the moment we have too many injured players and not enough quality competition for places in the first XI.

Who would you still realisitically like to sign?
Darren Bent

What is your teams main strength?
I’m quite happy with what we have in the centre of defence (Upson and Anton Ferdinand) and our keeper Rob Green is pure quality.

Who is the weak link in your team?
So far it was our medical backroom staff. I hope this season will be an improvement on the previous one in terms of injuries.

Where do you think you will finish the season?
14/15th

Is your manager the right man for the job?
Yes. I don’t blame him for the injuries or our clubs financial policy.

One to watch?
Mark Noble. With a full season in the PL under his belt I have high hopes on this player. Still young but very commited. I hope he can mature in the role of the midfield general for us.

What would be the highlight of your season?
If Curbishley could pick his starting eleven from a squad of at least 20 fit!!! senior players including the likes of still recovering Dyer, McCartney, Gabbidon, Collins, Bellamy, Faubert…

Season Preview – West Ham Fan

Are you pleased with your summer transfers?
No. We have not strengthened where we needed to and we have let players go where we should not have done so.

Who would you still realisitically like to sign?
We need left back cover, but there is no obvious stand out candidate here. We also need another striker and Benni McCarthy would fit the bill the bill there.

What is your teams main strength?
Rob Green.

Who is the weak link in your team?
Lucas Neill if he plays. He lacks the necessary pace and concentration to be an integral part of our defence.

Where do you think you will finish the season?
After seeing all of our rivals strengthening more than we have done, I fear we will be looking at another season of nothingness and we will finish 12th/13th.

Is your manager the right man for the job?
No. Curbishley’s teams are like the kid on sports day who sprints at the start of the long distance race and exceeds expectations, only to slow right down towards the end and get overtaken by nearly everyone else.

One to watch?
Jack Collison. Very gifted midfielder who made his debut against Arsenal last season and has made his international debut for Wales, despite only being 17. If our injuries persist, he could well feature quite often.

What would be the highlight of your season?
Finishing in the top 8 or mounting a decent cup run. Alas, neither will happen.

Hammers Terminate Freddie’s Contract

West Ham have today terminated Freddie Ljunberg’s contract and the player now remains a free agent.

Ljungberg’s debut season with West Ham was hampered by injuries which meant he started only 22 games.

A statement on West Ham’s official site read – “The decision to part company has been taken jointly and has no bearing on Ljungberg’s fitness, which he proved during Euro 2008.

“We respect Freddie Ljungberg’s position and are pleased we could reach agreement and wish him all the best in the future,” added Duxbury.
