Is Sunderland v Newcastle Really A ‘Derby’ ?
Oct 23rd

There’s always been a little bit of discussion regarding what is and isn’t a derby.
For me, a derby is a game where two teams from the same city play each other. For example, Rangers vs Celtic (Glasgow), Everton vs Liverpool (Liverpool).

Then theres the likes of Sunderland vs Newcastle and Pompey vs Southampton. For me, they are not derbies. They are just rivalries.

Are you pleased with your summer transfers?
Yeh im pleased, Not delighted tho, We need a LB a CB and a Striker before im very happy
Who would you still realisitically like to sign?
Jonny Evans, we despratley need a CB. Also i would also like Taiwo and a decent striker to play the loan striker as Daryl Murphy just isnt capable of that role. Louis Saha and Benni McCarthy would fit the bill.
What is your teams main strength?
Our Midfield, its looking strong. Steed Malbranque, Teemu Tainio, Kieran Richardson, Andy Reid and El-Hadji Diouf is one of the best midfields ive seen whilst supporting the club

Who is the weak link in your team?
Defence, Danny Collins and Nyron Nosworthy at CB is extremly worrying and Higgingbottom most likley to be playing at LB it doesnt filll me with confidence.
Where do you think you will finish the season?
hopefully near the top ten if we can sort out our defence out and get a good striker i cant see us having a poor season. 12th-9th
Is your manager the right man for the job?
Yes, the man has done a brilliant job, taking over with us being second bottom and got us to finish top and winning the league, then keeping us up in the Premiership and finishing 15th. I have every confidence in him as every Sunderland fan do(well most of them).
One to watch?
Kieran Richardson – The lad had a torrid time with injury’s last season with a serious back injury and a further injury after he was starting show to us what he was capable of. He has put the injurys behind him and has had a full pre-season scoring 3. Kieran will be a very important player for us next season and im excited to see what he can do.
What would be the highlight of your season?
Top ten finish hopfully, having a good cup run and sorting out our disgracful away record.

Are you pleased with your summer transfers?
Very happy, although i would like to see a striker in before the season starts, CB would be nice too
Who would you still realisitically like to sign?
I’d like to see J.evans in from man u, i doubt we could bring in bent from spurs now but would love to see us sign him as well.
What is your teams main strength?
Midfield is now top notch compared to last season, Gordon will be hard to beat in goal this season round..

Who is the weak link in your team?
Positions up front is very poor, even when jones is fit we only really have him.. keep another in.
Where do you think you will finish the season?
Midtable me thinks
Is your manager the right man for the job?
Defo, hope he’s here to stay for a while
One to watch?
The likes of Gordon, malbranque, diouf.. I’ll go with malbranque. Keep an eye on collins if he keeps his left back position
What would be the highlight of your season?
A good cup run and keeping a good home record like last season. We must have one of the worst away records going in the prem, i’d love that to change which im very positive it will.

Sunderland Star In The Dark Over Move
Aug 5th
Sunderland defender Danny Higginbotham has confirmed he has remained in the dark over a proposed transfer to Premier League new boys Stoke City.
The former Potters man told the Sunderland Echo – “I’ve heard nothing from Stoke. I’m at a huge club here and it’s really going places.
“You can see the players we’ve brought in and I think they’re a sign of some big things happening at the football club.
“I’m concentrating on being here. I want to be part of this football club and what it’s all about. Until anybody tells me different, then I really want to be here.
“I see a lot of potential here. It gets harder in the Premier League every year, but us staying up last year has created the opportunity to bring the players in that we have this year.
“Hopefully we have the platform now to push on and I really want to be a part of that. The new players have not come to be part of a survival scrap – they want a lot more than that and so do all of us.”

Saha Watches Sunderland Friendly
Aug 3rd
Manchester United striker Louis Saha was in attendance for Sunderland’s friendly defeat to Ajax at the Stadium of Light.

The Frenchman has been linked to a move to Sunderland whilst Keane has admitted he hopes to sign another forward, especially considering Jones has just gone under the knife.
Saha would be allowed to leave Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson has no plans for the forward in the new 08-09 season.

Diouf On His Way For Sunderland Medical
Jul 28th
As we reported yesterday Bolton striker El Hadji Diouf is now on his way to the Stadium of Light to undergo a medical.

Sunderland were believed to be in the race to sign Everton’s Andrew Johnson or Tottenham’s Darren Bent but this signing could end both those links.
Diouf confirmed he would be leaving the Reebok stadium after waving goodbye to his Bolton faithful on the last day of the season, whilst Gary Megson confirmed bids had been made for the forward.

Kaboul, Going .. Going … New bid from Portsmouth at the far right
Jul 27th
Portsmouth Manger Harry Redknapp has told a national newspaper that Younes Kaboul is close to signing for his Fa cup winning side.

Kaboul was close to signing for Sunderland after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical, the news was confirmed to Portsmouth and Villa who both had bids accepted, meaning Kaboul delayed his Sunderland move telling the club he wanted to go through it was his family. Meanwhile the defender was at Villa Park discussing personal terms.
However the move turned on its head after Portsmouth got the go ahead to discuss terms with the player who had looked for a move to the South Coast side for the past six months.
Redknapp hold the Daily Star – “Sunderland and Villa both made fantastic offers, but the lad decided he wanted to come to Portsmouth.
“Hopefully the deal will be completed over the weekend. Younes is a good, young player with bags of potential. He will be a great addition to the squad.”
