Reading v Watford

Reading take on Watford in tonight’s game at 20:00 and will be hoping to close the gap on Wolves to 4 points whilst distance themselves from league rivals Birmingham.

Whilst Watford are in the complete opposite situtation and against all odds have found themselves in a relegation scrap and with only three points seperating them and Doncaster in the drop zone will be hoping for at least a point to hold off the other teams who play tommorrow.

Championship Predicitions

We asked some of our Football League fans to fill out a serious of predicitions and they are as follows, if you would like to do the same then you can join in at our forums by clicking here.

True Saint [Southampton Fan]

Who will win the League?
Birmingham

Who will get relegated?
Swansea, Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday

Who will be top goalscorer?

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake

Biggest Suprise?
QPR

Who will be player of the year?
James Beattie

Biggest Disappointment?
Norwich

Tresor [Birmingham Fan]

Who will win the League? Hate to be so optimistic, but as backed up by all bookies and pundits, we have the strongest squad in the League, and I will disappointed not to win it. I realise that it’s not that easy, as Steve likes to remind me, but seriously, look at our firepower and depth.

Who will get relegated? Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday + any from Barnsley, Doncaster and Saints

Who will be top goalscorer? – Not one of our lot, we have too many for consistancy, Beattie is abit injury prone, so I’ll go for Earnshaw or most likely Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Biggest Suprise? Burnley or Coventry, Two quality squads, I expect both to finish top 8.

Who will be player of the year? Heart says Seb Larsson, Head says Sylvan Ebanks-Blake or Kightly.

Biggest Disappointment? QPR, I still think top 8 is a sure thing, but the hype means anything less than top 3 will be a disappointment; although to be fair to them, their fans know that the hype is a little too much. Also I think Coppell is losing it, and despite this being the same team that ran away with it 3 years ago, there is a different air around Reading

Hatch [Ipswich Fan]

Who will win the League?

Reading – They seem to have kept most their squad apart from Shorey.

Who will get relegated?

Doncaster, Southampton, Watford

Who will be top goalscorer?

Ebanks-Blake or Doyle

Biggest Suprise?

I reckon Coventry could be up there with a quick succesion of free transfers this week including the once prolific Clinton Morrison. The likes of East and West wood, Doyle and Tabb could be enough to push Cov towards those top two places.

Who will be player of the year?

I can see it being a Coventry player – Jay Tabb is peaking. Akos Buszaky could impress too.

Biggest Disappointment?

I can see Derby having a hard time and suffering a similar fate as Charlton and Sheffield Utd from last season. They will probably finish mid-table or worse.

Larry [West Ham Fan]
Who will win the League?
….can’t really see much further then Birmingham

Who will get relegated?
…Blackpool, Doncaster, not sure about who else

Who will be top goalscorer?
kevin phillips

Biggest Suprise?
Swansea

Biggest Disappointment?
again I think Charlton and Sheffield Utd

Season Preview – Reading Fan

Are you pleased with your summer transfers?
No, with the money we have, we should be buying more players.

Who would you still realisitically like to sign?
A new left-back. No idea who, mind.

What is your teams main strength?
Attack. Lita, Doyle, Long and Noel Hunt. Pretty good.

Who is the weak link in your team?
I would of said Oster, until he was released.

Where do you think you will finish the season?
1st or 2nd, with Birmingham taking the other place.

Is your manager the right man for the job?
He’s done it before, he can do it again. (Promotion, that is.)

One to watch?
Jem Karacan.

What would be the highlight of your season?
Beating our own record, of 106 points.

Shorey Completes Villa Deal

As we previously reported Nicky Shorey has now completed his £5m move to Aston Villa after agreeing personal terms.

Villa fended off strong competition from Portsmouth in the bidding war and will now also complete the signing of Luke Young later tonight or tommorrow morning.

This could pave the way for Gareth Barry to complete his move to Liverpool after the left back has now signed to cover Bouma’s long term injury.

Duo Complete Villa Medicals

Nicky Shorey and Luke Young have both completed medicals at Aston Villa’s training ground and will tommorrow discuss personal terms ahead of their transfers.

The Duo are believed to cost Martin O’Neill around £9million but the Aston Villa manager was delighted with securing the two.

O’Neill told Aston Villa’s official website – “We have agreed a fee with Reading for Nicky Shorey – a quality natural left-back who played for England 18 months ago.

“As we speak he will be coming up for a medical and hopefully we can agree terms.

“The right-back position caused us a few problems last season in terms of us not having a natural right-back.

“Now we’ve also agreed a fee with Middlesbrough for Luke Young. So hopefully there won’t be any major problems and those two deals can go through.

“Luke is a natural right-back and played for England not so long ago. He did very well for Boro last season and this is a great opportunity for him.”

Shorey On His Way To Fratton Park

Reading’s Nicky Shorey could complete a move to FA Cup winners Portsmouth next week alongside Younes Kaboul.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has already singled out the left back position as a weak area of his Pompey squad.

Reading manager Steve Coppell told Reading’s official website – “To be fair to Nicky, he’s made it clear from this time last year that he’d prefer to leave and play his trade elsewhere.

“There was a little bit of interest last week and the chances are he’ll be gone by next week. I’m 60-40 convinced he’ll be gone.

“The offer was a firm one but we’ve no need to sell anyone and I’m not going to give anyone away.”

Current Portsmouth midfielder Glen Little has also convinced Redknapp that Shorey is his man for the job.

Portsmouth Complete Signing Of Reading Star

Portsmouth have completed the signing of Reading star Glen Little after signing a one year contract with the FA Cup winners.

Little was a key player for Reading in their first Premier League season but a handful of injuries restricted him to only a number of games in the 07-08 season.

The midfielder is Portsmouth first signing of the season and will add competition for a squad that will be playing UEFA Cup football next season.
